In collaboration with the design team at Foster + Partners, Hoberman designed exterior shading roofs for Aldar Central Market, the main retail complex within a broader architectural project of three towers, retail space, and a public park. The kinetic design works off of an operable grid. In its covered configuration, the shading roof appears similar to a traditional coffered Islamic roof. When retracted, the roof becomes a slender lattice that complements the bordering designs for fixed shading.
