LOCATION: Private residence, NYC (2013)
CLIENT: Ulises Liceaga
Hoberman was commissioned for a group of sculptures by the architect and collector, Ulises Liceaga, with the request to create something never seen before. Inspired by this opportunity, Hoberman developed a new way to make shape-shifting forms. The sculptures are made up of an array of curved rods each of which rotates on its own individual axis, thereby forming a volumetric shape that continuously transforms. Deceptively simple, at once concrete and illusory, the experience recalls metamorphosis in nature, as well special as effects in movies (morphing).
These sculptures were exhibited on loan at the Chase Contemporary gallery in 2019.
